The copper tripeptide
GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring tripeptide with the sequence glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, complexed to a copper ion. It was first isolated from human plasma and has since become one of the most widely studied copper-binding peptides in dermatological and cellular research literature.
The distinctive blue colouration of reconstituted GHK-Cu comes from the copper complex itself. Researchers working with copper peptides should account for that copper load in their experimental design, particularly in cell culture where trace metal concentration matters.
